Some people sell products from other website owners while others sell products and services that they offer. Regardless of what your online business model is, we need to drive tons of traffic to our website. But what is most important is not just getting traffic, but targeted traffic.

When I first started internet marketing, I experimented on different methods for driving traffic. Some of the software or services that I bought did me no good.

Listed below are the three traffic generation techniques that I found most effective: 

* Placement of Links

Text links can either be paid or free. Adding links in e-zines or in other websites are some examples of paid linking methods. Since this method will cost you money, make sure to do your research first before leasing or purchasing link space. For ezines, make sure they have a good number of subscribers before you advertise.

One of the unpaid models is through article marketing . If you keep doing this, it will definitely make a good impact in your business. Make sure the content that you create add value to your target visitors.

* Pay Per Click (PPC)

If you have some advertising budget, it makes sense to put it in pay per click. In this advertising method, you create an advertisement like in the classified section of the newspaper and bid on the keywords that you would like to target. This takes time, energy, persistence and money  and research unless you know the google secret loophole by now. I would advise that you read your affiliate programs and pay per click rules before doing pay per click.

* Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization is basically the optimization of your web pages so that you can get a decent ranking by the search engines. You may have to outsource the optimization of your website as this may be time consuming.

These are some of the effective ways to get traffic to your website.
