How Can You Sell Stuff Online?

In no time at all, the internet has swept the world and is now our greatest means of communication. There is nothing we don’t do online anymore. It runs the gamut from sharing information to online shopping. One aspect of the online world we often overlook, though, is selling things online.

A lot of people who have blogs open an adsense account and let it run on the sidebar of their blog. They don’t expect to make any money from it and they almost never do. If they think about it at all, they may just wonder how Google ‘miraculously’ places relevant ads on their page, but other than that, they don’t give it much thought.

Just as happens in the ‘real world, ‘ only the companies with the deepest pockets seem to succeed at online selling. If a watch manufacturer, for example, has a website, it will likely be successful because the brand name is already known. If they advertise their new line of men’s watches online, they already have a market for them.

The ‘rest of us’ don’t try because they don’t think it’s worth the effort. They may briefly try selling online, but when nothing comes of it, they stick with their day job and forget about selling online.

Others don’t try to sell from their blog because it is a social network and they want to keep it free from advertising. They don’t want to get distracted from the social aspect of it. That’s fine, but perhaps they should look at it from another angle.

A girl who has a blog where she writes about the latest celebrity gossip or fashion trends is always promoting somebody’s product whether she knows it or not. She might rave about a crystal necklace she just bought and put a close up picture of it hanging around her neck on her blog post. She will mention the brand and even the store where she bought it. Odds are, if she has a lot of friends and followers, one or two of them will want to buy one of those necklaces, too.

She has just done the most effective kind of advertising there is – word of mouth. Yet, because she doesn’t have an affiliate link with the seller, she does not get a cut of the profits. That company may not even have an affiliate link, but if they did or if she did some research and found a way to profit from her free advertising, she could make a well earned commission from her blog.

Whether she’s blogging about jewelry, shirts for girls or anything else, if she just a little extra time, she could find a way to profit from the backlinks she is giving away for free. If you have a blog, think about it. Why shouldn’t you get paid for your passion and expertise?
