As a CMS for blogs, WordPress is a very simple to use script that allows for both manual setup and automated setup using a wide variety of tools generally available within a hosting account. It is for this reason that it has become an extremely valuable platform for bloggers and publishers of content based websites all over the world. In this article, I am going to guide you through the basics on how to create your own WordPress installation, and set your options the right way.
Before I go too far however, I would like to be sure that you are absolutely aware that this is a time intensive task, it is for this reason alone that I recommend the creation of a clone wordpress file so that you can publish your blog instalations across any other domain that you choose to use.
The first step is to enter your hosting account interface, more than likely using Cpanel, and locate your Fantastico installer. it is within here that you will be able to select a domain, and install WordPress automatically within a few seconds. This is very easy to do and requires no technical skill at all. When entering your settings, be sure to create a title and description that matches the content and purpose of your websiite or blog.
When you have installed your blog, all that is left to do at this point is to log in. When you are presented with your admin interface, you will notice that it is very easy to navigate and use, and is extremely flexible. The first task that I recommend you do is set your permalinks the right way. Be sure to set them so that your URL is category and post title based. The reason that I suggest this is for search engine optimization. A keyword rich and relevant URL will always please the search engines more, and will result in more traffic entering your website.
Now, there are a few plugins that I recommend that you install. the first is called “All In One SEO”, and allows you to use custom title tags and descriptions on each of your page. By using a plugin such as this one, you will be able to literally sell your content at the search engines, plus optimize your pages better for good placement in the search engines.
I also recommend using a plugin called “Google XML Sitemaps” for the sake of submitting your sitemap to the search engines. This is essential if you would like Google to be aware that your site exists, and is updated regularly.
Next, I recommend finding a theme to use. Whilst there are many available on the WordPress website, there are also plenty of premium level themes available from like likes of Woothemes and ThemeForest which are both easy to use, pleasent to look at, and provide a great user experience all round for the user.
That said, this is a lot of work, and I am only just scraping the surface here. This again is why I use clone wordpress files so that I can deploy my perfect installation across the board.
